A week after satellite images are released confirming mass graves in Tamil held northern Sri Lanka, Mr Tim Martin reaches day 17 of his hunger strike in Parliament Square.

He continues to demand that aid workers and observers are allowed into the country and that the displaced Tamil people are given immediate formal medical assistance.

Much of the Tamil population are currently sheltered in IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) camps and reports coming from Sri Lanka itself are now claiming human rights abuses including forced land transactions as the Sri Lankan government formally set about removing the Tamils from their land.

To date, the UN (United Nations) continue to acquiesce to the Sri Lankan government and, as a result, the widespread abuses continue.

The national flag of the Tamil people is flown in Parliament Square by long-time peace campaigner Maria Gallastegui. She has recently been arrested by Metropolitan Police who claim the flag is a proscribed item under the 2000 Terrorism Act. Under the act, the non-state flag of the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) is proscribed.

The Tamils have now been in Parliament Square for over two months and continue to pressure the British government to act to bring humanitarian assistance to the forefront of the international community. Despite claims that the LTTE have been completely eradicated by the Sri Lankans, they remain proscribed under British law.
