Afghanistan Advances Regional Trade Ties at Central Asia Industrial Expo

On the sidelines of the Central Asia International Industrial Exhibition, Afghanistan took a notable step toward strengthening its regional economic integration by engaging in a high-level trilateral meeting with Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. The meeting brought together Afghanistan’s Minister of Industry and Commerce, Nooruddin Azizi, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade, Laziz Kudratov, and Kyrgyzstan’s Deputy Minister of Economy and Commerce, Iskander Asilkulov.
The primary focus of the trilateral discussions was to enhance cooperation in transit and trade facilitation, areas that are critical for landlocked Afghanistan’s economic growth. All three sides acknowledged the importance of reducing logistical barriers and streamlining cross-border procedures to promote smoother trade flows across the region.
A key issue discussed during the meeting was improving Afghanistan’s access to the markets of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. Afghan officials emphasized the need to expand export opportunities for domestic products, particularly in sectors such as agriculture, textiles, and light manufacturing. The Uzbek and Kyrgyz representatives, in turn, expressed their willingness to support initiatives that would allow Afghan goods to enter their markets more efficiently, provided that regulatory and quality standards are met.
Another significant topic on the agenda was Afghanistan’s participation in the Central Asia International Industrial Exhibition. The exhibition, which includes participation from Central Asian countries as well as Russia and Belarus, serves as a major platform for industrial cooperation, networking, and showcasing products. In addition to the formation of the working group, the parties also reached an understanding regarding Afghanistan’s membership in the Central Asia International Industrial Exhibition. This development is expected to provide Afghan industrial firms with access to a range of membership benefits, including participation in exhibitions, networking opportunities with regional and international partners, and increased visibility for Afghan products.
